Background
Lake Victoria faces severe water level fluctuations driven by climate change and suboptimal regulation of dam releases. These fluctuations threaten dam safety, ecosystems, and livelihoods. There is a lack of accurate, real-time forecasting tools to support dam operations.
Goals
- Develop advanced hydrological and climate models
- Implement optimization algorithms for real-time water resource scheduling
- Create a decision support system for dam operators
- Build capacity in data-driven modeling among local experts
