Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria Advanced Water Management

Empowering Action Through Accurate Water Data

Background

Lake Victoria faces severe water level fluctuations driven by climate change and suboptimal regulation of dam releases. These fluctuations threaten dam safety, ecosystems, and livelihoods. There is a lack of accurate, real-time forecasting tools to support dam operations.

Goals

  • Develop advanced hydrological and climate models
  • Implement optimization algorithms for real-time water resource scheduling
  • Create a decision support system for dam operators
  • Build capacity in data-driven modeling among local experts
